Farmer Vincent kidnaps unsuspecting travellers and is burying them in his garden. Unfortunately for his victims, they are not dead. He feeds his victims to prepare them for his roadside stand. His motto is: It takes all kinds of critters…to make Farmer Vincents fritters. The movie is gory, but is also a parody of slasher movies like Last House on the Left.

Film Review

"Motel Hell" is quite a difficult film to gauge. It is referred to as a horror-comedy, but that description isn't very accurate, as it is more weird than funny and more macabre than scary. The story revolves around a couple of hoteliers (played by Rory Calhoun and Nancy Parsons), who have a side business selling fine smoked meats. But what makes the meats so good is the terrifying secret ingredient of human flesh.I have to say, going into this film, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. With cannibalism being a factor in the film, you might be expecting a lot of gruesome scenes. Yet, surprisingly, there is very little in the way of graphic gore to be found. The story is also a bit odd, in that there are some scenes that seem to drag on, yet give you little in the way of a pay-off. Also, most of the acting is fairly poor. Whether this is due to the lack of skills of the actors, or a case of a script that gives them little to work with, I can't really say. The side…

We begin with Vincent calmly sitting on his motel's front porch. The farmer collects his shotgun and other equipment before setting on an early morning hunt. At the same time, Terry and her bearded boyfriend Bo are cruising down the highway on a hog with sidecar. The girl is sitting behind her man, not in the sidecar, and neither have helmets on. Vincent sees the violent crash when a tire blows (the blowout is for reasons suspected, but not confirmed until later). The hunter turned rescuer loads the injured girl into his truck and takes her home. Ida, who throughout the movie will display some medical knowledge, is given the task of nursing Terry back to health. When she does regain consciousness, she is told that Bo died in the crash and that Vincent buried him in the local cemetery.Bob shows up for a surprise inspection of Vincent's pigs the next day. Poor Bob, the scriptwriters conspired to laden him with onerous pig comparisons. Vincent says, "Go on in, make yourself …

A wonderfully absurd and ghoulish tale, of the type that typically graced the pages of EC comics during the 50s, Motel Hell is superb fun from start to finish: director Kevin Connor perfectly balances the mix of dark humour and gruesome horror, achieving some truly macabre imagery in the process, whilst his talented cast give finely tuned performances that go to make this film one of the more unique and memorable horror experiences of the 1980s.Rory Calhoun plays Vincent Smith, an elderly farmer (and motel owner) renowned for his delicious range of smoked meats. Little do his customers realise, however, that the tasty treats contain one very special secret ingredient: human flesh harvested from accident survivors unlucky enough to run into one of Farmer Vincent's highway traps! Hauled from the wreckage and buried up to their necks in a field with their vocal cords slit, the poor souls are left in the ground until 'ripe', at which point they are dragged to the smokehouse fo…
